About
Hattie Molloy
Hattie Molloy is an Australian artist whose practice moves between photography, product design, botanical composition and installation with a singular consistency of vision. Her work begins with a deep familiarity with the natural world and a persistent desire to challenge how we perceive it, encouraging us to seek in the ordinary something unexpected.
Photography sits at the centre of that impulse. For Molloy, the camera is a means of suspension, a way of holding a moment of impossible arrangement, where colour and form exist in precise and fleeting balance. This quality of the captured moment, and the suggestion of the surreal within it, runs through every facet of her creative practice.
Her collection of sand-cast aluminium vessels extends this philosophy into functional sculpture. Designed to heighten our appreciation of botanical forms, each vessel creates a dialogue between industrial materials and organic forms, elevating floral arrangements through sculptural composition and material contrast.
Based in Daylesford, regional Victoria, Molloy’s life and practice are deeply intertwined. An avid gardener, she spends much of her time seeking out unusual plants to cultivate, foraging for botanicals and exploring local markets for objects whose textures, forms and histories quietly inform her work.
